Is there any physics reason that elementary particles cannot be allowed to save state (e.g., hysteresis)? For example, if we jiggle a proton enough, could there be habituation, sensitization, or some kind of historicity to how it responds in the future. @seanmcarroll? I’m not

just asking if there’s evidence for this (if it’s already known that particles are trainable, by all means tell me!), but assuming not, are there any arguments that if all instances of a particle weren’t identical, something well-established would break down. Is this forbidden?
