These captures are truly stunning, especially the play on lights and scenic framing. Thanks for sharing
Very nice, especially the steam backlit by the rising sun, it’s textured.

Thank you for sharing these!
Love this quote.
Beautiful. The Godzilla with the hourglass is a bit ominous/on the nose. Are we running out of time to get our collective shiz togetger before we face an existential crisis? Or, is the crisis already here and the sand already fallen. Given the overt hostility towards science and expertise that we face in society right now, sometimes I feel like Godzilla would be an easier opponent in terms of existential threats to human well-being/flourishing. Or, maybe it’s a beautiful picture of a setting where an agent has practiced their problem-solving through play. I can think of a lot of fun games an hourglass and a toy might make possible with kids.
Thanks for being so generous with your perspectives, both with your ideas and your photography, Mike.
Thanks Jeff. Honestly, I didn’t plan it with the ominous meaning (although I can certainly see that interpretation!). I was feeling pretty good that morning and Godzilla and I had a nice time looking for the right light. Indeed, it’s a good game for kids to play with different objects like that. I used to make it a contest, to see who runs out of distinct stories to tell (taking turns with them), incorporating 2 random weird objects. Anyway I guess the message on those images is: you can always turn the hourglass over.
Beautiful, dramatic, playful, thank you for sharing these images Doc, have a great day
Por vezes, o tempo deveria “parar” perante determinadas situações, tais como essas, na contemplação e catação dessas imagens!!!
Virar, ou não virar a ampulheta!!!!??!!
Sim, exatamente!
I feel like the magic hour is the only time you are not working :p
🙂 but even then – I am working, that is my meditation time – the photography keeps the hands and rational mind just busy enough to let the other ideas and content in. It’s a pretty crucial part of my work.
I remember saying to a colleague, “I’ve given up on truth. Now I just believe in Beauty.” With beauty no analysis is required—its truth is self evident. Thanks for these glimpses.
Thank you for sharing these, the Godzilla one pushing a rock made my day!
Light, color, texture, gradient, composition – it’s all there. Spectacular! What a planet, and you capture it’s sublime mysteries and present them to us from in and out of your lab. I applaud you!
Beautiful, what’s the general location?
