    Dear Mike,

Some great quotes, but in https://thoughtforms.life/quotes-to-think-about-8/#bwg51/5836, I think you mean Emerson.

    Cheers!

    Mike,
I think I see in these quotes a side of yourself that until now you have kept pretty well hidden from your “public”. What I interpret as your embracing of the transcendent (dare I use the word spiritual) aspects of this life is deeply moving to me. The “quote” from GPT-3 is a beautiful expression of a bioengineer’s dedication to his life’s work. Thank you!

I often hear you talk about creativity and artistic talent, as though it is something that you do not possess… I would argue that it requires the same skills that make you such an incredible scientist and philosopher and they shine through in your art… I think you might just bring about a renaissance of the renaissance man.. 😉

I have followed you for some time now, and recently have read Federico Faggin’s book IRREDUCIBLE which was a brilliant analysis. I understand you and his colleagues are friends, and would be interested to see where and how your work overlaps his.

Thank you Michael for allowing me (at age 83) to understand life in a new way. I am fascinated by your research, lately especially your thoughts on Platonic Space, but I am also intrigued by how you present your knowledge. There is some kind of “free lunch” there. Like a poem…the timing of a comedian…or?

🙏 Well, part of overcoming my shy nature for public speaking, ~35 years ago (when I first realized that scientists have to tell their stories to rooms full of people) was a visualization I came up with: imagine myself as clear glass. No one sees you, no one cares about you in the bad or good sense – they just want the information behind the glass. The material wants to come through. So when it’s time to present, just disappear as much as you can – the info is there and the key is not to get in its way. I often have no clue what I’ve said afterwards, I just kind of barrel on as best as I can and try not to think about the process while it’s happening. I do agree that there’s a free lunch component here.

The last (Gilbert Keith Chesterton) quote , some associative thinking …

    Gospel of Thomas Saying 22

Jesus saw some little ones nursing. He said to his disciples, “These little ones who are nursing resemble is those who enter the kingdom.” They said to him, “So shall we enter the kingdom by being little ones?” Jesus said to them, “When you (plur.) make the two one and make the inside like the outside and the outside like the inside and the above like the below, and that you might make the male and the female be one and the same, so that the male might not be male nor the female be female, when you make eyes in place of an eye and a hand in place of a hand and a foot in place of a foot, an image in place of an image – then you will enter [the kingdom].

Dear Michael Levin, as an ancient Boomer can I offer you my heartfelt thanks for the confidence I now feel that the future of my grand and great grandchildren is in good hands. I am knocked out by how your work and breadth of thinking touch a chord with the young … if we’ve ever needed new open human minds it’s now!
An intractable atheist I absolutely agree that the Platonic realm is real and wonder whether you have considered that the quantum realm is part of it, that they form the single realm of perfect forms, mathematical accuracy to 20 decimal places, perfect symmetry, who knows what unimaginable wonders and most important, unbreakable laws that keep the incalculable power of a universe of energy/mass locked up in it’s uncountable particles under control. Fortunately the strong nuclear force ensures that no errant human scientists can ever split the proton and prise its 3 quarks apart because if they do it defiantly creates two more. It seems to be the consensus of physicists that the quantum realm came into being at the same time as the macro realm at the Big Bang. It’s hard for my ancient brain to grasp that as it means that the quantum realm must have evolved along with the world of messy matter but evolution involves error and with the amount of matter/energy the quantum realm sits upon there could have been no room then for even the minutest error as is still the case!

It is both amazing and awe inspiring to see what the word reveals in many different ways, both about how we viewed things at that time, and how some things resonate across time, and space. Thank you for your continued work, Mike. Beautifully done in the most scientific of ways. Staying true to truth as it is observed.
